This is a blog about public health, epidemiology and inequality.
I’m a biostatistician and epidemiologist working in the area of the social and environmental determinants of health.
I have an interest in the social, economic and political drivers of inequality and how these impact people’s wellbeing. I am keen to explore and reflect on our fundamental goals in public health — how to always keep them in focus, and how we can achieve them through social change. I’m also a wannabe RStats and GIS nerd.
I completed my PhD in 2020 on environmental hazards and health risks in vulnerable groups in NSW. Prior to that, I completed a Master of Biostatistics in 2018 and a Master of International Public Health in 2013.
I am a lecturer at the University of Sydney School of Public Health, teaching into a range of subjects and I am also a coordinator of the Master of Public Health. I have also worked at the NSW Ministry of Health as a biostatistician working on projects relating to infectious disease outbreaks, motor vehicle collisions, environmental health, and perinatal health.
I’m an Eelam Tamil, born in Batticaloa, and raised in Australia on unceded Ngunnawal, Wiradjuri, Dharawal and Gadigal Land.
